Hi everyone,
This might sound a stupid question but does anyone one if one can buy nicorette (nicotine chewing gums) in India in the pharmacies or anywhere else? |

Not stupid - I'm dreading the 12 hour plane flight with my pack a day husband - I think I'll cover him in patches so only his eyes and lips show.... remember that episode of ab-fab where Patsy was covered in nicotine patches?

The patch is really great for those long flights; you might also want to carry some for long train rides.

Patches or gum...what do other quitters think. I'm thinking both! I so don't want him smoking when we're all sharing hotel rooms or out and about... I was kind of hoping he'd give up in India with the flight to kick him off. Personally I just stopped my pack a day habit and never had or wanted another from that moment on,.... woke up one morning after 20 years of smoking and decided it was over! God how I hate it now...

i planning to visit the UK next year and am dreading the flight as well.... i am going to stock up on both gums and patches, the former being easier to find i think, atleast where i live in Delhi.
Also having major apprehension on whether one will be able to get a B&B in london which allows smoking. |

One patch gives you enough nicotine to suppress the longing for a whole day. It works by keeping the body's nicotine level just above the craving point, although nowhere near the just-smoke level. There is no nicotine-rush effect with patches.
If you want a smoking substitute then I'd say that the gum might be better, as you should get some hit from it, especially if you leave it as long as possible. For actually giving up, I'd recommend (from personal experience) a health crisis and genuine fear. But the patches helped me through!

Patches come in three strengths; they are helpful for quitting because while your body is getting "enough" nicotine, you can be working on the habits that go along with smoking, like getting your lighter from your pocket as you come up the escalator from the underground and all the other little things you do when preparing to light up. After a couple of weeks on the strongest patch, you'd go to the middle level of nicotine, and then to the lowest ... and eventually, no patch. Or so the theory goes.
Without the patch, and without really trying to quit, I have cut back to about three cigarettes a day. Part of it is from living in California, where every year there are fewer and fewer places to light up, and fewer social situations where smoking is allowed. |

Not sure where I'm from

I tried to stop smoking with a patch--it started out with way too much nicotine (heart pounding and a bit of a dizzy feeling) and then by noon it had worn off. Maybe I soak it in too fast.

where are the gums?
I put this thread to ask whether I can find nicotine gums in India but all the answers I get are about people's experiences of quitting smoking. Please, does anyone know whether and where i can find these gums in India?

I'd take them - we are going to, I'd hate to rely on finding something like that that you really need. I seem to recall someone in another thread saying you need to take them with you.

Shashank says you can.
I agree that it it can be frustrating when a simple piece of information, or a yes/no answer, is needed, and a great chat ensues. From the lack of simple answers (except Shashank) I'd suspect that they are not too easy to find. |
