Need indian equivalent for this particular drug
Hi Guys,
Could u please help me find the Indian equivalent of the drug Oxycontin. Well it's available in the US with this name. But i was wondering what is it available in india as. The generic name is oxycodone hydrochloride. It's a powerful painkiller. Also, could someone tell me if there would be any problem if i took it to the US...are there any legalities associated to it??? thanks in advance |

Oxycontin
Isn't this the painkiller that is abused in the northeast and midwest (I would call it the "mideast," but that name is already taken) in the USA? It is probably on the US Customs watch list.
Officially, you probably need a prescription to bring Oxycontin into the States. It will probably be alright to bring 50 or less pills in with you. Don't try to bring hundreds in. I don't know what the daily dose is. A one month supply is reasonable. The pills from India I brought into the USA last November were Alipurinol, Indocin, Tetracycline, Wormin, and ear drops. The highest amount were 100 pills of Alipurinol. No, I did not declare these medicines. |

I would strongly suggest that as this is an opiate medicine and therefore subject to abuse (and it also has international treaties governing its movement and the US will most likely be a signatory to these) that you contact the US Customs agency before you go to see what the medicine import laws are (ie, whether you are allowed to bring this medicine back into the US). I would very much doubt that you would be able to bring this product into the US without a prescription and I'm pretty sure that you would have to declare it to the Customs agents on your arrival (as happens in Australia).

You may find a pharmacist that has a book he can look it up in. Alternatively, go and ask a doctor. You might get the information *and* a prescription that you can show when returning...
...although I suppose anyone could print out a pice of paper with Doctor Something on the top and then scribble on it. Maynot be the complete solution
