Need help in identifying a mental institution for a difficult to handle patient
Been pondering a long time on this problem and when I couldn't find anything on the net I decided to ask the members here. Does someone know of a good institute where one can institutionalize a difficult to handle patient of Schizophrenia? The patien is a male late 30's under treatment staying at home at present, but the situation is getting out of hand the the patient is getting more difficult to handle with every passing week. He has been on medication for over a decade and a half now and being looked after by an aging father who cannot handle him any more.
Would be glad for any kinds of leads to a place where they can put him in. The father is willing to pay for the upkeep for as long as it takes for the treatment.

Hmm.
You probably already know that not much good help is available with this disorder in large parts of India- including with treatment. Including big cities. There are some setups with residential failities, but most will not take people on a semi permanent basis, as far as I know, unless (very rarely) the person is destitute. One such I have heard of is in Chennai (look under residential care, they have a rehab program so the patient goes back to the family) I have no idea how good it is. http://www.scarfindia.org/rehab.html Another one in Delhi- again, I have no opinion on good or bad since I have just heard the name http://www.tulasihome.com/Unique-Pro...ion-Centre.htm

I don't know if this is of any help to you but I know of a massive psychiatric hospital near Calcutta called Antara. I can't comment on it as I've not yet been, but am going there to do some voluntary work in a few months. From what I read it is relatively well resourced, and has many patients who suffer with psychotic illnesses such as Schizophrenia.
