Why do people focus on risks that are relatively small and not look at the larger picture?

At least read this before you "go natural":
not to argue, but i too base my decisions on being informed. it's true that many people take risks everyday, but some of us are doing what we can to minimize our risks of poisons that harm the body.

and incidentally, i've already gone natural, a long time ago.

I've never used it myself, but the following site sells treated clothing that repels insects.

Oil of lemon eucalyptus [p-menthane 3,8-diol (PMD)], a plant based repellent, is also registered with EPA. In two recent scientific publications, when oil of lemon eucalyptus was tested against mosquitoes found in the US it provided protection similar to repellents with low concentrations of DEET.

have to say that neither naturals nor DEET helped with the mosquitoes in Chennai in September. They bit through it all, even through my clothes!

My sister is a pharmacist, and she swears by Vitamin B...

...but she has never been in Chennai in September!

deet?

I always seem last in line, but here goes. Many good points from this cheery well informed crowd. I as for the bugs matural seems to work quite well if applied heavily every couple of hours. in certain areas mossies are actually attracted to deet are what not. They learn that those bad smells offer a good meal. Small little buggers. As for natural oils, most "natural oils" are actually man made. Even the high priced ones like from young living.
Another point is that if your body is funtioning properly all the horrible things we are exposed to are dispelled. But yeah, deet is toxic so if something else can work, why not try that first. Cheers

I swear at Vitamin B ---for not stopping the mossies biting me.

There is a 'natural'-base repellant sold by Boots in UK, container with a green top, don't have any here; it certainly smells nice whereas DEET (or is the solvent base?) smells horrible.

I've been using Odomos again. I tried it before without sucess, but it seems to be working now. I saw a mossie flying towards my foot: it looked confused for a second ot two then flew away.

By the way.... Suddenly realised that I should call my Mosquito zapper 'Frank'!

Yes, the research on vitamin B is that it is useless. However, it makes an excellent placebo. Since some people tend to be bitten and some not, those that aren't will swear by bitavitamuin B if they were taking it..
