Be careful! Currently I am dealing with Bedbug mess. I think I picked up two moths ago in train...and since last 10 days its literally a war in my home.
Best thing what you should do is whenever you reach the destination, you unpack your luggage, dust them out and if possible spread in sun for some time. |

I had to ask for these -- they were behind the counter. They are the right size for a doorway, or a single bed, so it worked great as a blanket on my last trip.

thanks for the info
thanks for all the replies. after reading this thread, however, i am itching from head to toe.
we are staying in mid range accomadations in kerala (cochin, varkala and munnar) i thought the doc was warning us about bed bug diseases, but according to my husband whom i just checked with, bed bugs were just shoved in between all the other stuff she was scaring us about. we leave in 12 days and no smarmy bed bugs will keep me away! thanks again. |

Yep, I got 4 xeroxed handouts listing off all the terrible fates that could befall me if I went through with the ridiculous idea of leaving my insulated first-world cage!
And everything was fine, of course. When you arrive you will figure it out. The first few days/weeks will be an adjustment period where you figure out exactly how anal-retentive you need to be about this stuff. Don't be afraid to go a little overboard at first! Much better to decide you don't really need super-DEET bug spray than to realize you don't have it and can't live without it. Also I wanted to compliment you on one of the coolest nicknames around! That's one of my favorite books! |

Sheeesh.... got me worrying now!
But, I tell myself, in three years neither of homes have seen anything worse than ant invasions and the occasional cockroach. Ants in the kitchen is something of a perpetual struggle. Currently (ha! no pun intended) they seem to move around the electrical conduits and emerge at an appropriate socket, but in the last house, which was old, they were just everywhere. The cockroaches just get swept up and dumped in the garden. Oh... we do have an infestation of kittens.

I took a duvet cover to sleep in as I am scared that bugs, ants and spiders will crawl in bed with me....but this is a totaly personal thing nothing to do with bed sheet being unclean or bed bugs. But I did find it useful in the beach huts we slept in. and used it on the beach to play 'tents' in lol

To be on the safe side, buy a cheap can of anti insect spray from any corner store in India, and spray the mattress and / or sheets. |
