Is it necessary to sleep under mosquito netting in Southern India?
My "rough guides" is painting a pretty"mozzie picture"! If recommended I would have to take it with me as some the home-stays I booked don't have-them. thanks in advance

I think you'll find it varies even over small areas, so I don't think there's a straight answer. I'm in Benaulim,South Goa and where I am I've seen one mos. In Margao y'day, about 5km away, we were a bit later than expected and didn't have spray with us. The buggers started on us at dusk!

It is, for me, if there's no fan. Mossies can't land in a breeze, so smear on the Cutter's and turn the fan on before you turn off the light! |

I nearly always have the fan on pretty high, but here in Tanjore I think the mozzies have wisened up to it... they seem to sneak in 'round the the back of my neck behind my ears and crawl down my back ! Trouble is, the fan here is SO noisy I can't here that zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. ... before it's too late !
I swithched the fan off and spent the next hour bashing myself around the head while lying in bed as soon as I could here the buggers ( trying to kill them ). I thought it could only be one or two.. Eventually , I got a small towel and had it ready to 'cover' over my face as soon as I heard them & managed to wrap a couple up & get them... Great I thought.. now some sleep..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... ..... OK, time to switch the tube on.. then spent another hour running around the room swatting the multitude with the towel. I think the hotel room may need painting over.. ! Needless to say, I'm bitten to pieces ( I even sleep in a sheet sleeping bag.. )Tonight, although I don't like the chemicals, I will buy a coil. ![]() |

mossie killer
I usually use one of those electric mosquito zappers; they usually do the trick. Dead cheap here, don't buy one in the UK. Brand name is 'Good Knight'.
