a few questions re. mosquito bourne diseases:
1. agreed we need drugs. what ones do you recommend, why, and can you get them in delhi? 2. agreed we need repellent - for dengue fever especially which has no drug protection. what do you recommend (neem, deet, odomos, etc), why, and can you get it in delhi? many thanks for your help. ---------------------------------- peace is stillness, and in stillness there is death. |

The lowdown on Malaria and not getting it!!
Strangely I've just discussed this with someone else!!
As far as the drugs go I have just come across a new one, well new to me anyway, it's called Savarine and is a combination of Chloroquinine and palaudrine in one daily pill, THE recommended choice against malaria in India!! Against being bitten I've always used either Odomos or the other brand from Godjej called Mosfree and they work just fine and are pretty cheap in India!! As well as that you'll need some protection at night so consider a mozzie net for over your bed. The ones you hang from a central point are the best, as the nets with four hanging points are really difficult to hang up whilst moving from hotel to hotel( take some nylon cord so you can hang it up!!) Or use the little electric zapper from Goodnight (also Godrej) these kill the little buggers and are very effective unless you get a power cut, then it's back to liberal applications of the cream to see you through to the morning!! Available in India for around Rp 100 including refills for 40 nights!!! Hope that answered your questions!! |

Hives are an allergic reaction: take some Benedryl with you.
Breakouts? From what? The heat? Not much you can do about that, IMO. If it's from strange laundry soap, take your own sheet or buy a piece of silk (weighs nothing) in India to use as a sheet.

IF you'll be on the East Coast of India (Puri, especially) there's also mosquito-borne elephantiasis -- no preventative for that except not getting bitten.
