Monsoon season, must travel, advice needed.

Not sure if this thread is in the right place, and I know this kind of advice is available on other threads, but most of those threads are filled with "DON'T DO IT" comments.

In general, what advice would our members give to someone who must travel during the monsoon, and in the areas where the monsoon will be in full flow?

How does a person cope with the rain?

What type of footware would be best?

Bearing in mind the humidity, what clothes are the most suitable?

What items may help to make the trip more comfortable? (eg. an umbrella)

Is transport affected by the Monsoon?

Should any form of transport be avoided at all costs?

Is Sleeper Class (trains) to be avoided at all costs?

'Cloud bursts' (is that the name?) are a particular problem in the hills and valleys of HP and Uttarakhand (the North East states as well), is there a particular time of the year when the risk is greater? (I know, monsoon time, but is the risk greater at the start of the monsoon, the end of the monsoon, or a great risk all through the monsoon?)

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Generally Monsoon will be in full flow in Kerala[one of the southern state in india] and parts of Karnataka. Generally Western coast of India will be getting good rain during June and July. In August is subssides. Again by Sep to Nov North East Monsoon starts. This will be heavy in North East India. and some parts of Eastern parts of india. But even Delhi and Mumbai get this rain moderately.

I do not think coping with rain is a problem. Enjoy the moist weather. Do not alow to drain your head, it may cause cold. Use Rain coats/umbrellas if you are planning to go out door during Rains

It is better to use washable slip in shoes. In India foot ware stores like Bata [ you see Bata shops all over India] produces special forware for Monsoon season.

Light cotton and light synthetic dress advised.

Ofcourse, Umbrella/Raincoat, Plastic Cap, light Towels

Generally not, But some times flooding creates problems in some parts of India. But it wont last more than one day.

It is better to avoid Backwater [Lake] Transport if you are in Kerala. But if it is a sunny day just go for it. It is amazing.

You can travel in Sleeper Class Trains, since it is the cheapest mode of travel.

Cloud bursts are not common, but you can's predict. Generally monsoon will be heavy during the start. if it is in HP and Uttarkhand generally during late June and July.

But even this you can't predict.

Wish you Happy travelling.
