No vaccine; no treatment, apart from alleviating the symptoms. I heard from someone (here, I think) that one of the antimalarials (although there is no relation between the diseases) has been found to give relief.

It is spread by mosquitos so I think a good first line of defense is just protecting yourself from mosquitos: bug spray and mosquito nets when sleeping. I have heard a lot about mosquito nets but can anyone tell me how easy they are to get? Are there often mosquitos indoors?
I believe it is spread by day-flying mosquitoes.

Heaps of info on nets... whole threads devoted to them*

I think as long as you treat the disease you are fine, it's just not a fun disease to have. Arthritis-like symptoms is what has been described to me! I hope our fellow user who is suffering from it feels better soon!!
I don't think this is a killer, like Dengue, just very, very unpleasant, and with symptoms that can be long-lasting.

*Whoops! Just re-read that. I mean IM forum threads, of course. No pun intended

Funny part is, the school is hosting a dance/light show at a fort, at night. I told a friend and they said it is wonderful. My concern was being out at night with mosquitos. I think that I will have a different outlook once I am there. I want to enjoy the experience..........Now for the Delhi superbug.....hmmmm

The peak biting times are dawn and dusk, with flurries of activity around mid-night or 2.00am. One application of repellent, before the sun starts to set, will actually see you through most of an evening out.

My understanding (which does not really stretch to long chemical names) is that Odomos is DEET.

I think I've read it somewhere --- but, anyway, it is my experience, as one who is usual up and about in the hours of the night. This is when I often get bitten!

Basically... although there are different day- or night-biting mossies, and the major peak times, there is a 24-hour risk of getting bitten.

Pure Gold--possibly one of the best reply's ever-I have always assumed that the "Major Peak times" were when i was asleep, as that is when i seem to get bitten.

Well, yes ... but that could have been between 12.00 and 2.00!

I do find that, at open-air events, one notices the mossies most around 6.30pm: the peak thing is certainly true, I guess the night fliers are wanting breakfast! However, if they didn't bite at other times, we wouldn't have to bother with nets at all.

Another experience of mine is that if you disturb a mosquito, for instance by disturbing the plants where they are asleep, they will come out and bite!

Now I must apply Odomos and go out for the evening!

Hopefully one of our scientists will be along.

My understanding is that it is a different name for the same stuff, or very close relative.

Actually... I hope a scientist will be along, because I'd like to know if I'm wrong about this!

Oh, thanks... I thought so, but wasn't a 100% sure. I think there is more than one long chemical name for DEET (which probably stands for one of them)

Some people do not like the smell. I'm one of those odd people that often likes things others don't --- I do like the smell of Odomos. The tube version, and the lotion, at least: the spray is rather pungent.
