Monsoon diseases - prevention is better than cure

Monsoon bring rains and life full of it, but also some deadly diseases, as the evil face of every good one.

In India, mostly diseases like Malaria, Typhoid, hepatitis, cholera, dysentry, viral fevers, etc. break out each year and run havok through the spines of the country, from village to towns, from cities to metropolis. So, be careful. Some small tips and their practises can prevent them and keep those ailments at bay. As always said - Prevention is better than cure.

Take care, and here the link for you and fellow travellers:

Very sorry to hear that you caught this. Apart from alleviating symptoms, there is little that can be done about it, and, as you are demonstrating, it can affect a person from months.

I think it is spelt Chikungunya: it only sounds as if it has to do with chickens!

Wishing you well...

HAHA! I know. I am sure that I will shift my worry to something else while there. Earth quakes have been drifting in and out of my mind.

Holy s*** you caught chikungunya?!? I remember a group from the CDC coming to our virology lab to give a special seminar on this virus! That was about 3 years ago now. I hear that it is excruciating and had proved to be quite deadly in some areas!

What was the treatment like for it? I thought this was mainly a problem in the south and didn't even realize it was flourishing in Delhi. Is it still a problem in India?!? I was under the impression the rates of infection had gone way down from what they were a couple years back

Yikes! Is there any vaccination for this chicken-whatever disease? Sounds awful!!! I'm starting my immunizations next week, (5 months out) and now another lovely disease to worry about! Sounds like you're thru the worst of it, but still...hope you don't have any residual from it down the road. Get better, ok?

I don't believe there's any vaccine available yet for this virus. I think scientists are working on it, but it's my understanding that bad outbreaks only began happening in the last decade or so.

It is spread by mosquitos so I think a good first line of defense is just protecting yourself from mosquitos: bug spray and mosquito nets when sleeping. I have heard a lot about mosquito nets but can anyone tell me how easy they are to get? Are there often mosquitos indoors?

I think as long as you treat the disease you are fine, it's just not a fun disease to have. Arthritis-like symptoms is what has been described to me! I hope our fellow user who is suffering from it feels better soon!!
