Unfortunately I'm in the process of vetting clinics for a kidney transplant. Does anyone know if there is a place on the forum that reviews various clinics in India. If not, any advice on ensuring I pick a good clinic there?
There are a lot of clinics that advertise services via a Google search but I currently have no way of determining whether or not the cost is in line with reality and equally important, whether or not the clinic staff is well trained and qualified and the facilities adequate. Thank you so much for your help on this matter. Don |

I don't think there is a thread on this forum where medical stuff is reviewed. People may have posted experiences at random, but I can't recall a kidney transplant being discussed.
Unless you already have a known good doctor lined up, my suggestion would be to avoid unknown clinics and look at corporate hospitals, depending on your city preferences. Apollo, Max, and Wockhardt are just three. All will have websites, Apollo certainly does (see below). They are more expensive than others but will be better for somebody who may not be plugged in locally. Maybe others can answer better if you indicate city preferences. Many Delhi-ites will disagree with me, but after personal experience- I would avoid Fortis Vasant Kunj in Delhi like the plague. Generally speaking, cities the size of Hyderabad are cheaper than bigger cities like Mumbai or Delhi, though the medical treatment is at par- and associated services often better. I have no experience with Max, and pretty extensive experience with Apollo Hyderabad, besides a few other corporate hospitals in Delhi. Some of these may well be specialising in -or better known for- kidney transplants. I would target these. And I expect these to respond to email queries, even if slightly delayed. They may even have special links for foreigners. Good luck. http://www.apollohospitals.com/ http://www.maxhealthcare.in/ *strong recommendation to have a friend or family member along with the patient almost at all times in any Indian hospital. Not essential, but much, much better.

You're welcome.
You could run shortlisted hospitals by the forum- people may have experience with them. Of course, finding a good doctor/surgeon you are comfortable with is as important. |
