Question Medical Entry Requirments?

Are there any medical requirements to get into India, like vaccinations needed? I am from the United States (CA) if that helps.

If "sf13"' means you're in San Francisco, go down tot he Public Health Department on Grove Street (behind City Hall). They will tell you which shots are recommended and you can get them there at reasonable price.

Aside from people arriving from yellow-fever infected countries, there are no required shots but there are certainly some highly recommended. Some more than others, depending on how long you are staying in the country.

Cheers

We just came back from Brazil. We visited a travel clinic before we went there and I was told that unless I travel to India within a month of coming back, I won't need the yellow fever vaccine.

Does anyone have any experience or advice on this one?

Thanks.

Yes, but don't take this as a method to save money or anything. Most vaccines need time (up to weeks) to kick in. Please speak to your local travel health clinic, or doctor specializing in the same.

So this is handy if you need a booster (i.e., to finish a course of shots that you started too late or so), not for anything else. Getting them there means going there unprotected, and being so for again possibly weeks.

Also, fooling around with hospital visits and stuff (and I did have to get a booster shot just upon my first arrival, and I did find it a bit of a project being young and all culture-shocked and generally flabbergasted, although it was perfectly alright in every other way) just upon landing may not be the most pleasurable, many people (including me at the time) find something like acquiring toothpaste or a pair of slippers daunting enough at first. (In fact I remember quite clearly the doctor kindly enquiring "if anything else were amiss" -- I guess I really must have looked a little out of it )

But seriously, you really shouldn't even consider it at all, unless you are for some reason dedicated to traveling around unvaccinated in the first place.

ps Sorry Helen, hope you found your answer by now. I have no idea about those yellow fever specifics.

Good catch Mach, going unprotected against Hep A, nasty. My brother in law took a year to get back to his athletic self.
The YF seems reasonable given the term for development of the disease but am no expert. Not a real doctor as my little boy put it..

Hm yes, Hep B was what I had to catch up on actually. Never caught on over several courses (the vaccine), but I don't regret it.

I'll have described it plenty a time before. My doc at home seemed to be all like Hmmm, here's a wild young man going on a lengthy Asian trip, better see him through it. We had a bit of a laugh & I can't say I blame her for it She did the right thing I think, really.

(What's the YF anyway? Try to spell out your abbreviations that others may not understand Ed, I have no idea. The Yncubation Feriod? But otherwise always thanks for your signs of approval of course The feeling is mutual.)

As an update, we had no problem getting our visa, I'm sure they could see the Brazil visa and our entry-exit stamps.

We visited a travel clinic and were told that we won't have to get the yellow fever vaccine since it's been so long since our return.

We ended up getting Hep A&B Twinnix, Ttp, typhim IV, and meningoccocal. First rounds. Will go at the end of this month for the second rounds for 2 out of these 4.

I feel like we're covered

I think YF refers to yellow fever

I'm not sure what you mean but yellow fever doesn't take more than 10 days to develop. So if you're travelling to india 2 months after your return from say Brazil, you don't need the vaccine.

And India isn't a yellow fever region so it's not really necessary, from what my travel doctor said.
