Maleria tablets and feelings of nausea

I hate taking my maleria tablets as I find myself feeling constantly queasy - a friend had told me that on her last holiday she had managed to track some down that had anti-nausea medication included but she can't remember the name.

Any ideas

In the past I have taken malaria tablets (the kind you take once a week) on two separate trips. During the first trip, they definitely made me queasy, sometimes even dizzy. Before my second trip, the doctor told me to eat a big meal before taking the pill and that seemed to work. I ate a much bigger meal than usual and waited until finished eating to take the pill. (On the first trip, I think I took the pill just as I began to eat.) Good luck!!! (I will be taking malaria pills again in a week or two in preparation for my upcoming India trip, so I hope the big meal works for me again.)

Take your pills before you’re heading to bed – while you sleeping you won’t feel queasy...

hey! Have in mind that you shouldn't take this tablets for a long time. Since they are quite bad for the liver.

Cheers and have a good trip Kitten, Lindak and ducky!

I was also really sick from my malaria pills so I switched to taking them at night before I went to bed. Usually by the time they made me feel sick I was asleep and by the time I woke up I felt better again. Also it'll help if you take them with a meal (not just a small amount of food). Maybe you can just try Pepti-Bismol? It's safe enough to take repeatedly (I think) and it might help calm your stomach. Hope you feel better!

Kitten:
Here is a website that describes the various malaria tablets (including the once a week variety) with side effects listed. On one or two Indiamike threads a few months ago, there was quite a discussion on various malaria tablets and their side effects.

Also, some medicines must be taken at mealtime so check that out (eg. Doxycycline)..

And doxy should not be taken just before you lie down.

The pharmaceutical handbook says that antacids and bicarbonate may hinder the uptake of doxy.

I take mine after supper or right before bed..And i take a supply of rolaids, because they give me heartburn..I don't think i would take them in the day..At least if you don't feel good in the evening, you are in bed..
