OK....after much debate...I have decided to take the LARIAM.....

I will add onto this thread and advise of my experiences, and that of my family and share it to dispell any myths or rumours........

So far....it's been a day since we took our first dose and all seems well.

Next dose is next week.....stay tuned......

Actually, it is said in the literature that they do have some immunity. It certainly wouldn't be practical to take something long term though this where the Chloroquine inneffectiveness problem developed..

2nd Dose of Lariam

Like I said....I wanted to keep you all updated on my own personal experience taking Lariam. We just had our second dose and still, no side effects. I did have one sleepless night....not sure if it was from the Lariam or from the SWEET DESSERT that I had the night before.

Concensus after 2 doses....NO PROBLEMO with me, my wife and our 2 kids, 11 years old and 6 years old. We are off to INDIA tomorrow night for 4 weeks.

WISH US ALL LUCK AND MAY YOUR LARIAM EXPERIENCE BE A PLEASENT ONE.

Does season matter

I am going April to June, mostly in the mountains but also Varanasi. Will the season affect the amount of bugs? Is this a consideration. I was there 3 years ago and I don't remeber many bites (my memory could be selective). I am leaning towards not taking anything.

I strongly insist that you take malaria pills with you. The mosquitos in India are not that stong hearted - They tend to faint after sucking the blood of a foreigner. As soon as a mosquito bites you, catch him. Then tickle him in his pubic areas and as soon as he opens his mouth to laugh, put the pill in his mouth. that's all you got to do. Gud Luck.

All this discussion is good, but a lot of people seem to overlook the seriousness of malaria and focus on side effects which are usually short lived. Most people have a story or have heard of someone who went loopy on Larium. Look at the facts. Malaria is a killer.

Well put. It's good to see this forum isn't full of just naturopaths that think cancer shouldn't be treated by chemo, but a series of herbal drinks and oils, instead.

malaria tablets

Friends

Does the time of year make any difference?

I plan to visit Delhi, Siliguri, Darjeeling, Shimla and Rajasthan in the next couple of weeks.

I am taking tablets (even though they are no guarantee, they lessen the odds) because malaria is just a bit too serious for taking any risks.

Best wishes

John
