my girlfriend and i are in rajasthan early april and have different GPs.
we are both going to take anti-malarial medication but oddly my GP said that there is no risk of malaria whereas my girlfriend's GP has prescribed malarone. which of them is right? (i am going to take medication anyway but you have to wonder don't you?) |

medical advice for uk travellers
which of them is right?
As with all GPs and travel help they are as good as the practice nurse!! Most should have upto date travel info. Looks like one did and the other did not. This site is great and gives upto date info at a cost but good and reliable for tourist use. http://www.masta.org/ ps it stands for Medical Advisory Services for Travellers Abroad |

No question about it. You need anti-malarial prophylaxis. Use Mefloquine 250 mg tablet to be taken once a week. Start taking it at least 1 week before departure. Continue it for 4 weeks even after leaving India. It is available in India as Falcital, Confal, Mefliam, Mefloquine, Meflotas and MQF. The price is around Rs 200 to 300 for 6 tablets. |

Probably reflects on the wide range of opinions on boards like these too. Whom you'd rather trust is then up to you.

That there IS Malaria in India is pretty clear cut Mach. It's more likely to be a doctor not up to speed on tropical diseases!!

![]() I was thinking the doc may have had a different opinion on the area or period in question. The way docs go. Whatever, seek second opinions and all that and go with what you're comfortable with. As in "I am going to take medication anyway" above, seems clear enough to me. |
