Mrs M's entire ankle blew up after one bite. When it goes extreme like this, it is probably a bit past the powers of Vicks. You need to take anti-histimines. They won't work immediately but they will stop it hanging around for so many days. The doctor that I took Mrs M to (by the way we are in southern Australia so no malaria to worry about) agreed with me that we just have to get her out and bitten more.
