Malaria in southern india during monsoon

Hi there, I am trying to decide whether to take malaria tablets when I go to india, basically if there is a real malaria risk then I would like to take them.

The areas I am going to are northern india and southern india (not goa) but I will be in southern india during the monsoon. The map on various sites says that malaria risk is negligible in all these areas and that malaria tablets are not needed, I also went to the doctors today and they said that they are not needed.

I am wondering whether this map is oversimplified, and I think perhaps I have read that there is a malaria risk in southern india (I will be going all over, mosquito ridden forests etc) during the monsoon period. What does everyone think?

If Hyderabad is southern India and there is no malaria in southern India I want my money back. I got it in the monsoon or just after. Who has the complaint book for that.?
