Malaria Hotspot chart?
Am leaving for India in 10 days. I need to figure out which areas are Malaria hotspots.
Is there some sort of a list, or map that highlights which places are hotspots?
Thanks

Malaria patterns India!
Hi mushyosh
I'm not sure that this is so easy to depict in a simple map. Malaria is not as huge a problem in India as say somewhere like East Africa. It tends to follow more of a kind of oubreak pattern, so where there was a malaria problem last may have no malaria the following year!!
As it will be monsson during your stay I think it's safe to say the risks are slightly increased, the risk of contacting most diseases seem to be higher during the monsoon season. So stop wavering and get those meds!!!

Go to a doctor who is a travel specialist and ask there, they should have a pretty good idea.
They'll tell you that you need every medication under the sun, and you probably won't, but at least you'll know. That type of doctor usually also sell "gastro packs" with something to stop, something to go, something to replenish, etc. Fortunately I didn't have occasion to use it but it's reassuring to have!

I've met people who've got malaria in the north, in the south, in central India... the problem is, sometimes like with the vivax strain, you find out you've got it a year+ later and will have no idea where you got it. Ditch the dangerous meds, in my opinion, coverup your arms, legs and feet at about 5pm, and use some DEET or Odomos on your hands and face... this from someone who's had malaria too...
