Malaria and Kids

Hi all,

I have read many of the posts regarding Malaria on this forum and have found them very helpful. However, I still do have a few questions. We are traveling from Sept. - Jan and have three kids ages 6,4,2. We will be in Dharamsala, Spiti, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa. Possibly other places but for now- those are the plans. I am a bit worried about 5 months of Malarone, especially for little kids and so was wondering regarding time of year and places to travel if there are places that I could skip the Malarone?

thanks!

Have a look at this map. Apart from Goa all your destinations are outside the risky regions.

There is no contraindications for children on Malarone. However, the cost is a big bite as you know. That being the case we decided a decade ago to skip an expensive vaccination prior to India and get it for the shona baba alone. Well worth it for that one. If the parents croak they will he will live on..

Thanks Vonkla and Edwardseco. The map is very helpful. Since we will be out of the risky areas, I guess we will use Malarone only as needed.
