long term malaria prevention

I am going to be in Gurgaon, a suburb of New Delhi, for possibly a year. Is it recommended to take malaria meds for that length of time? I had read something recently that suggested that it was not advisable.

You could switch between different types after a few months. These drugs haven't been tested long term but equally there is no evidence to say that there are long term damaging effects.

Doxycycline does have a contrary indication for long term use..

I have read that taking a homeopathic malarial prophylaxis redices the side-effects and long term effects of taking prescribed 'anti-malarials'. Of course it's always worth mentioning that preventing the buggers from biting you is the first step, prophylaxis the equal other.

I'm also interested in the statistical risk of to short-term visitors of contracting Malaria.
