Last Minute Jitters--need support! :)
Hello!
I am leaving for India in ONE WEEK! I am only going for two weeks, which is barely a blip compared to how long a lot of you go for, but I'm kind of freaking out. I'm going all by myself. I do prefer to travel alone, but I don't think I've done it quite so alone, for so long. I'm super-prepared, but also expect changes-know I have to be flexible. Plus I was in the Peace Corps and lived in Guyana for two years. But. I'm still freaking out a little, like, "WHY! Did I decide to do this?" I'm a nervous, shy-ish person who has a lot of phobias. (Which makes it all the more awesome when I DO something that's tough for me.) Actually, a huge part of my fear is the plane ride! Eeek. 14 hours = not good. Anyway, just asking for some kind, supportive, encouraging words from anyone who wants to give them. ![]() (PS: I am a 30 year old female.) |

If you lived in Guyana, (I presume British, because of the spelling) let me compare usual tourist phobias.. but I have only visited Georgetown twice.
In India -more touts in cities and touristy places - far less crime -far more begging -far more people. Guyana has a small population and is a small country. 800,000 or so (I looked it up). Mumbai has a population of 13 million, Delhi around 11.5 On another note, browse the forum here. I remember quite a few people freaking out before, during and after India . My only suggestion would be to relax, take the usual safety and health precautions, don't expect a more sterile Western experience, and you will enjoy it. |

Well, I'm a nervous and shy sort of person too (many of us have on-line personas quite unlike the physical reality!), so here's a word of encouragement from me.
I'd say it's good that you are coming for only two weeks. Its a good taster, as long as you don't exhaust yourself by cramming too much in. What I still find hard to understand is the many, many people who make their first visit a six-monther! Still, we're all different ![]()
