Malkers, I'm very glad you did bump up this thread as I missed the blow-by-blow account before...

(Have to admit that I wasn't quite up to reading all the details of the op...)

The one that I'm interested in is called Conductive Keratoplasty. It is being offered here by Dr Agarwal's Eye Hospital.

I'm a little disconcerted that I met these guys at a big retail exhibition selling their stuff --- but at least it allowed me to have a short informal chat about it. The hospital has a top reputation here.

This is a technique for us age-related reading-glass wearers. They do stress that, although it turns back the clock, it cannot stop the ageing process --- so further treatment may be needed in years to come, or wearing glasses again. At least this is pretty honest.

Who, me?

If so, thanks but Calcutta is a tad far.

But I've had some advice to check out a Chennai hospital or two that isn't quite so commercial...

Suggest you send Malkers a PM. He still drops in, but I see from his profile that he hasn't logged in for a couple of weeks.

I am really wondering, why I can't send PM's to you guys.

Nick, have you conducted the surgery in Chennai? I'll be in Chennai for 3 months and I am also planning to have such a lasik.

Malkers: How is it going with your wife's eyes? Everything still fine after now almost 2 years?

Bye

Simon

Everything is perfect thanks, I'm one of the lucky folk with near perfect vision and she can read stuff at distance as well as I can. Jen has recommended 3 other people to the surgery at the same place and all have had complete success.

Cheers
Malc

Bizarre coincidence I was just researching having this done myself and this thread rises from its slumber.

It's looking like over £3000 to get it done in the UK. What's the going price in India now and does anyone know anywhere in Delhi that's recommended?

I was put off the whole idea (at least at that time) by our independent eye surgeon giving me a lecture on not-strictly-necessary surgery. It can be summed up as, "It might be almost completely safe, but what if you are the one in a million for whom it isn't? Courts can't restore eyesight".

The fact that "Let me write you an introductory note" would have earned him a commission made me appreciate his integrity and advice.

I still wonder about it occasionally, though. Maybe one day. Techniques can only develop.

I was put off by reading an account of someone who had it done describing the smell.....

...but not enough to not have it done!

I think that what I wanted doing was about 15 or 18 thousand, a year or so back.

Nick would be there for the follow up. But, I don't see how how the average visitor would. Not all of these operations have a success and some do require followup. A friend did one eye, great. The second... I echo Nick's caution on vanity surgery..
