Malkers, I'll definetely be in contact with you to hear about your girlfriend experience with LASIK in Bangalore as I might do it as well later this year.
Good luck to all.

laser eye surgery

So who's the eye doc in Chennai? I'm down in Mamallapuram having dental work while I'm recovering from an acl reconstruction and shoulder arthroscopy (hell of a vacation, eh?) so I'm thinking about having the eyes fixed, too.
Thanks,
Jim

Here is the info from Dr Rao after I asked him about Wavefront for you.

"We, of course do wave front Lasik. It is called Zyoptix in B&L terminology. It is a "custom made" lasik for each eye. Usually we reserve it for higher, complex numbers and in situations where the cornea is thinner than the average."

He usually responds to all emails I have sent him within 48 hours so fire away and ask any questions and I am sure he will answer them for you. Contact details are above!

Big day is all set for this Thurs at 15.00 so we will let you all know how it goes!!

Well, we are back and Jen is already asleep on the beanbag alongside me as her eyes feel they naturally want to close.

First job was topography which basically maps out the dimensions of the eyes and produces a chart which determines how successful the actual treatment is likely to be, in Jen's case they said she was perfect for it.

Then after a little bit of waiting around she was called to the Lasik room for the op, I wasn't allowed in the room but for the privelege of guests or anyone who has walked in from the street you can watch the whole thing on video in the waiting room which is crystal clear and close up.

I only watched one eye being done and that was enough for me but what I saw was pretty amazing.

After squirting a ton of various fluids including iodine there was a little circular clamp attached to the eye to keep the lid open then a tiny machine was slotted over the top of the clamp and I saw a little cog turning as it went round which when removed caused the newly cut flap to flop down which turned me a little green, then i saw what appeared to be a lazer light in her eye and after just a few seconds a little tool came along to flop the peeled bit back over, a bit more wash and that was it, job done and out she walked.

She can see, (in fact we stopped to do the shopping on the way back) but she is obviously a little blurred at the moment.

She tells me there was absolutely no pain whatsoever and the only weird sensation was that her vision dissappeared completely on each eye at some point (I'm assuming the flap cutting bit) during the op.

She has to wear some pretty awful dark glasses for the next 48 hours including sleeping, has to visit the same doc again in the morning, then a week later, then a month later.

The eye hospital itself was spotless even down to the front garden and driveway!

Will keep you all updated with her progress and when she gets good sight again!

Cheers
Malc
PS: I told the surgeon that I expect a little baksheesh if anybody I recommend goes to him
PPS: I can see the auto drivers now, silk shop madam, handicrafts emporium sir, eye hospital madam!

Good news, Malc.

& how much is the baksheesh? Surely not more than Rs 100 for a few minutes chatting up a bloke and convincing him it's a good idea to peel his cornea back and toast it with lasers. In both eyes, to boot!

*vision of the real estate chaps gloweringly watch you rake in the moolah for a few minutes smooth talk.

It's a good thing I live in Indiranagar, it's quite far for you to come down and kill me.

Hi,
hope jen is feeling better.

I have had lasik done in Mumbai almost 10 year ago at phiroZe dastoor at santacruz, mumbai under Dr. Banaji, they were among the first to do it here.

Yes i saw the surgery on video when i went for my check up - finally paid a bomb for both eyes since my no was very very large.

Have had no problems - Touch wood.

my younger sister subsequently got her eyes operated too under Dr. Banaji at his private clinic.

Best of luck and good vision to all

Latest update!

She did get some stinging pain and a headache about 3 hours after the op so took a tablet and went to bed and slept right through.

She has awoke this morning with no pain whatsoever and absolutely perfect vision and is busy running round the apartment trying to find various things to read and is over the moon.

I'm over the moon too as I was started to get worried about how I was gonna get my coffee and toast this morning!

A success so far!

Cheers
Malcolm

Quick update!

8 days since operation, still a little bloodshot but clearing up, all in all though pretty much perfect vision, just the odd bit of blurriness when she is tired which is to be expected!

Cheers

Just a quick update as a member called Thomas emailed me and asked if I would bump up this thread to advise how Jen is 9 months on after the lasik surgery.

Completely perfect, no side effects whatsoever and vision is still spot on, I do wonder if she is ok when she is driving and I'm the passenger but then I thankfully remember she is a woman!

Cheers
Malc
