Be very careful with Lariam. We had to leave India just after two days of staying there, because a friend of ours got mentally afected by the drug. We only realized that after consulting a doctor in our homeland. She had an clinical history of depressions and the drug just grew on that.
In all, our first time in India were only two days in Mumbai.

Larium (under the generic name) is widely reported to be available at better pharmacies. However, the frequency of ill reports makes me also most reluctant to recommend it..

I agree. take care with it. I took it for 4 weeks, and in the last two of them I felt quite sick . I imagine it was because the mefloquine, but can not be sure. Anyway each person is different, most people will take it with no problem. Also mefloquine is suspected to interfere with vaccinations, especialy antirabies vaccination.

Very sorry that your first visit to India ended up so abruptly.

ohh well
you just have to look at the bright side of life .
Only two days but very intensive. I definately have to comeback.
Just wanted to alert the IM viewers. Don't let the malaria medication ruin what can be an wonderful experience. If you have to, stop taking the pills or choose another med (malarone, doxy). In all, we never saw any mosquitoes (ok only two days) and there are ways to prevent the bites (nets, repelent).
