Katadyn Micropur Water purification tablets

Has anyone had any experience with these for water purification:

I recently bought some for my upcoming trip to Africa. I was reading the instructions/precautions and they say to use goggles, gloves, etc., when handling them and if they make contact with your skin you need to seek emergency medical attention, etc., etc. They sound pretty deadly to handle and use, but are the only tablets that kill viruses. I just want to see if other people have used these and if they really are as dangerous as they say.

thanks!

seems very expensive, around $1.86 per gallon.

The Steripen kills everything in 60-90 seconds with no chemicals, just UV light. It'll treat water at around .16 - .20 per gallon.

Looks like you're paying for the brandname

See this link for a similar product from a UK pharmacy chain --- and try your local shop!

Why 0.1mg of silver in a litre of water should require any special handling I can't imagine!

Yes, Micropur has a very good name - one of the few tablets that doesn't leave a taste in the water. It is used by most of the major Overland companies to purify their bulk tanks. It is very concentrated.

I have overlanded with it on a number of occasions and never caught anything from the water yet!

Tim in England, also going to Africa, in November
