Japanese Encephalitis outbreak

I've just being reading up on the outbreak of Jap B in Northern India, I'm heading in 2 weeks to India and had planned on doing the North first. I never got the jabs for Jap B cos I heard their quite bad so am wondering should I avoid any area where it is ? Also how easy is it to contact, is it airborne or waterborne or what ?

It is mosquito borne. The mosquito bites an infected pig before biting you, I think. From what i understand that is one disease you do not want to get.

yes, Ed, it's JE, not Jap B! I got the jabs myself cause it's the season for it, especially if you're going anywhere rural, or anywhere where there may be pig farms or dead birds. Uttar Pradesh is a very high risk area during and after the monsoon--I would get the jabs if I were you, especially given that recent outbreak :-) Check the World Health Organization and see what they say--they're supposedly the experts
