Is Rabies Vaccine Necessary?
I will be in India for 2.5 months (both in the North & South and City/Rural areas!), and then heading to SE Asia including Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines.
I am on a very strict budget and I am not sure if it's absolutely necessary if I should get the Rabies vaccine. Is it worth it for the protection? Last edited by josh : Sep 3rd, 2004 at 10:38. |

No, I wouldn't bother with the rabies vaccination, OK there are cases but really they are few & far between. Most rabid or suspect dogs are killed by the local people at the first signs. I'm not saying that you won't get bit especially if you go in less touristy places, safe dogs can sniff strangers out, especially tourists at 200paces, I've been bitten twice in India, once Delhi, once Pushkar, but was reasured by the locals that it was only because I was a foreigner. I'd be very surprised if you where bit by a dog in these places these days, as they, like any person under 30-40yrs as grown up with foreigners meandering through there territory ,,,,,,,,,,,,
