Is it safe for a woman alone?

My wife wishes to travel to New Deli alone. She has been to Europe and thinks traveling to India would not be much different. How safe is it for a gulable, pretty woman to be traveling alone with little cash?

Mindful, it is safe enough.

Suggest you read some of the threads on women travelling alone out here... correction, suggest your wife reads them

Btw, lots of gullible pretty women go to New Delhi alone with varying amounts of cash

Absolutely safe, but a little precaution is always recommended.

All in all she should be fine. Other factors depend on her age. If she's under 40, "eavesteasing" could be quite common. I found Delhi to be more uncomfortable and aggressive than other cities in India. And it has a huge muslim population which gave the impression I was arriving in Kabul or Karachi - not India! Hands will linger on their crutches quite often, if you know what I mean.
On arrival they practically forced my luggage out of my hands (I had no choice) into a taxi. I asked the driver to take me to my hotel, but forced me to another one (they get commission) which basically was a bordello. Before that he stopped in the middle of the trip in a remote, destitute road and under verbal threats demanded Rs 750 for a Rs 100 ride. That was my first intro to Delhi...

I hardly think she can compare Delhi/India to Europe! Thats like comparing Chicago to Tijuana.

Suggestion: 1. If she arrives in the evening/night (most international flights arrive on very uncomfortable hours), arrange for her hotel to pick her up. And be a bit careful traveling at nights.
2. Dont wear shorts and tanktops - they do think this outfit makes women more 'easy' because why else would you advertise your bodyparts so openly for everyone to see..?
3. Be a bit cautious and aware
Once she has some basic cautions in place, she should be OK.
