yes get your insect repellant once you arrive we also get the burners for the night time also the sun tan lotion is alot cheaper there than here all the well known brands are for sale my husband dosent evn take his shaver as he gets a shave every otherday for about 50rps even towels and such is cheaper so dont go packing your kitchen sink when going to goa as youll get everything you want there for just a fraction of what it costs here
and with all the space you have in your suit case you can take some old childrens clothes to give to the poor kiddies youll see around you or even adult clothing theres so many poor it will give you a heartwarming smile to see them happy when giving such small items sharon |

50% --- maybe not.
Odomos, the Indian standard DEET-based repellent, is about 12%. The only difference that makes is how many hours it remains effective.

...you can easily find it in the 'outdoor' shops in UK.
I believe it is dangerous to some plastics, which it dissolves ! But I have used it and it didn't dissolve me ... |

DEET products are available in a variety of concentrations. The more DEET in the product, the longer lasting the protection.
The EPA has noted that individuals of all ages (age 2 and up) can use DEET-based repellents with confidence in any concentration so long as label directions are followed. While the American Academy of Pediatrics has indicated that concentrations lower than 10% are preferable for children, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that this lower concentration is needed. DEET products today are intended for all family members over the age of 2. More info at www.deet.com |

Take as much as you can with you! The repellent on sale over there is generally shit. Well, in the parts that I travelled to anyway!

Odomos works for me, and I am a mossie magnet.
It is a very individual thing. A DEET alternative marketed as Autan in UK was 'shit' as far as I am concerned. Not one mosquito even wavered in its path towards my skin when I used the stuff. But it is rated as effective and works for others. It may be that you need a higher concentration to mask your personal body smell, and Autan doesn't mask mine at all. Up until yesterday, when the builders started renovation work, everything in and around our new Chennai house was a haven for mosquitoes, and moving anything disturbed a cloud of the things --- which would head straight for my ankles. Odomos mostly kept them off. You have to find what works for you. Bit of an expensive pain if you've brought along several bottles of something that turns out not to! |

Not in Proper Form on This Forum
I would also like to lodge a strong protest at a medicated skin cream being referred to as 's**t' on such a prestigious forum as India Mike, and the moderator raising no objection to the use of offensive language.

Oh dear, oh dear oh dear, yes I think he was!....
I think Milan was wrong, but I don't think he was alluding to the means of manufacture. We do control the language on this forum, but we are neither saints nor puritans. So there you go. Next time we find a truly useless product, we'd better make a mental note to describe it as 'crap'. Hope that will suit better ![]() (and I repeat, before the manufacturers start to take action: It didn't work for me, but apparently does for many others.) |
