golly,
urine drinking is a fascinating subject
im a real enthusiast and would like to go into discuss and explore
the subject--but not on this forum, unfortunatly

interesting point you made about getting used to the water
seems like-and im guessing-ones immune system kwows what to do
and does it fast
theres no confusion
eg in one glass -you fill it with water from say, 10 different scources - immune system has no memory of dealing with these strange visitors

i came across a report that one of the ancient rulers was paranoid about getting poisoned
he asked his physiscian what can be done?
he advised him to take a very small amount of all the popular
poisons of the day (at different times)
and slowly slowly the body developed an immunity

Provided said poisons are not cumulative - as so many are!!!

The body expels urine - for good reason. If you then again ingest it?? - Sorry! The logic completely escapes me!

o980,
id love to go into the urine subject but cant do that on a forum of this nature--too many closed minded people about
very quick to put down anything they disagree with and ruin the topic

the ancient ruler.......its only a story...may or may not have happened

i used it to try and make sense of how immune systems work
hell, i could be wrong - im guessing only

Russian shamans drank their urine after eating magic mushrooms. Second time around the active ingredients were much more potent. So I guess if you want to concentrate toxins that might be the way to go. On the other hand rabbits eat their feces because they don't get all the nutrients out on the first pass. They carefully discriminate between first pass and second pass feces and reject the latter.

Yet another of my post-count building blocks (repeated so many times) ---

It is true that your body gets used to the minor germs in your local water. This works when you live in a place, not for travelling. It does not take many years to happen, nor does it take very long away to readjust to another bunch of microbes, and loose your immunity to the first. I guess a year or two will do! My guess is based on my experience of living here, and that of returning Indians I know who became very ill after drinking the water in their own Chennai house.

Indian water sources and quality are so variable, that you might get utterly different microbes in different houses in the same street, let alone different cities.

Even though it is true that the immune system adjusts to the local microbes, it should be remembered that Indian mains water (true for other cities?) is not under pressure, therefore the leaks let stuff in as well as out. That nearby sewer pipe may have fine yesterday; it may be broken today. So drinking tap water always has some risks, not only for residents, but for even for born residents.

It isn't the foreign tourists, by and large, that constitute the statistics of those who die with diarrhoea.

this gets me thinking that a traveller could greatly minimize the harmful effects of drinking water from many different scources by drinking a particular brand of water coming from only one source
eg perrier or whatever
ok you think a year or two to get used to it
cant believe it at the moment
i must google that point---someone must have thoroughly investigated it

That's why most travelers there (and many many locals; and in many other countries for that matter) stick to bottled water yes. Leading to issues of leaving a "plastic trail," but that's another discussion again.

theres reports that bottled water is worse than tap

scanning the web ive found practically zilch safe and effective
way of making it pure (exepting hauling a 20kg elec distilling machine)

drinking urine solves 50% of the problem +eat a lot of melons

came across a simple solar distiller in nexus magazine the other day--looks like one could build it yourself
any one seen the article?
The Swiss company Katadyn makes a number of filtration systmes, though they are all fairly expensive, in my opinion. I did get their "Exstream XR Personal Water Purifier" for travelling/hiking in Ladakh. It's a 28oz/830ml water bottle with a built in filter that claims to last for 120 refills. It has three different types of filters in it, and says it kills 99.9999% of water-borne bacteria and 99.99% of water-borne viruses and protozoa. Here's a link on it: http://products.katadyn.com/brands-a...Series_25.html
If you're looking for something with more output, they do make larger systmes, but they are definitely pricey!

delivers 000 tds
always always stomach cramps
dont know if its the charcoal or what

I used a refillable water bottle with a filter in the lid and some chlorine tablets. Must be a similar idea to what you posted, Marius. I was fine using that to drink tap water in Nepal.

jikwan, you remind me of grizzlyofalaska. Have you ever been Timothy Leary by any chance?
