Injections or not??

Hi,I was just wondering your thoughts on getting injections when travelling these days as know one looks forward to needles.I had injections about thirteen years ago and am now due again.A few of my friends just dont bother anymore and have been fine,But as im leaving for India in five weeks i need to make a decision soon.
If anyone has any advice that would be great

Personally, I wouldn't go to India without Hepatitis A; Typhoid; Polio; Diptheria and Tetanus jabs.

But I wouldn't go hang gliding either.

Ask your doctor and make up your own mind!

I wouldn't recommend it, you might be 'lucky' if you are staying for a few days. Anything more than that chances are you're bound to run into something dodgy! Would you prefer to have injections now or risk ending up in an indian hospital, your choice.

no one likes shots, but it's your life. I know people who went to India with no shots and they were fine; others I know got every shot known to mankind and they still wound up in an Indian hospital with IVs. Before I went I got all the shots that john suggests, and I'm getting my Hep A booster in 2 weeks.

I guess it boils down to what's your peace of mind worth?

My brother in law never got those shots and he never got anything Well until a few years ago. Anyway, it only took him a year to recover. I second John's listing as a sensible plan. There are more but the cost benefit ratio isn't isn't convincing to me (menin., JE, Rabies, Plague which for odd reasons I have)..

You've made the best choice.
Keep up with them & with most you'll only need booster jabs every few years.

I had shots for India 2 years ago and didn't need anything this time around - but at least all the ones I got for India I didn't have to pay for

Apparently a tetnus shot is good for ten years. What about the other shots like Hep A etc?

Should be a site like CDC that gives med. advice from real professionals rather than from quack doctors like me..

Question

But surely if the risk were high the immunization would be compulsory?

My only previous trip to India has been a 2 week package to Goa. I didnt have any injection for this, as a holiday a few years previously had been cancelled when my reaction to a polio booster had made me seriously ill ...and over 10 years later still not totally over it (a type of fibromalgia/ME)

So Ive decided to avoid all optional immunization from now on.

Incidentally whilst still living in the UK a few years ago I asked my GP nurse what they recommended for Zimbabwe/Zambia where I had happily lived for several years ....without any illness .......and the list was a very long one.

Any views on whether India (Im planning to visit Kerala and Karnataka staying in hotels costing 500-800R per night) .........is likely to be significantly more risky than central Africa?
