I spent a good part of this morning reading the Health and Well-Being forum as obviously want to be as prepared as possible for my first trip to India. However after a while i suddenly found myself dreading the trip after reading numerous stories about Malaria, Delhi Belhi, amoebic infections, gardia, cysts and the various pains and stresses that go along with this! Has this happened to anyone else?
Anyway i quick walk at lunch and some logical brain power and i have decided not to over-react and just use these examples to learn from. So here are my thoughts: Malaria: go to Dr and ask for their advice. IF i decide to take meds well just take them and dont worry about it. On arrival buy one of those burner things and appropriate cream and mozzy net. Remember to use them and shouldnt be any problems Delhi Belly: as a strict vege (no meat or milk) keep that up and be aware all the time of salad, ice, 'old' food etc. Eat local food in busy places. Buy med hand wash and use regularly. Drink plenty of bottled water. Have some immodium tablets (and other suitable medication) with me before leaving and always take toilet roll out with me. Start taking a course of probiotics before leaving. And i guess just accept any bouts of illness as part of the trip and not worry too much about them. I am sure to regular India goers this may seem all a bit daft. However if i feel prepared for it i reckon there is less chance of me getting ill than if i am worrying all the time! Would appreciate any thoughts on this tho. |

only thing I could add is that you'll have a much easier time of it if you allow dairy, as it's all over the place, in all kinds of dishes. Other than that, yeah, you're gonna be fine, no need for worrying. That's what those non-travelling relatives a;ready do for us!
