I'm not sure where to post this so I'll try here. I will be traveling to India to do some trainings in the Ayruvedic technique of Chavutti Thirummu or Thirummal. Does anyone have any information on this for me. I want to make sure that I am getting good legitimate training.

Hello Lonely Aztec,
I am a proffesional Massage therapist here in the US and I just want to do some more trainings in my field. I have done extensive research about the Chuvutti Thirumal technique ( thanks for correcting my spelling) and I know thats what i want to train in. I just want to make sure that I am getting authentic training while in India. So I'm trying to find out any additional specific information from 1st hand knowledge. If you or anyone else knows of anyone that does the training I would appreciate the information. Thanks, Slfcre8 |

Hey,
Its not so much abt the spelling. If u do not have the right spelling, Google will not throw up sufficient result pages or correct info. Kerela is the right place for any ayurveda or any massage. So, head towards Kerala. |

yes- I do know that you need the correct spelling however this technique is called atleast 3 different names in different parts of India so it gets quite confusing. Thank you for your response.
I still would like to find someone in Kerala that may know of a good training place. From my understanding this massage form is done mainly on dancers and the people training in Martial arts. It is a part of the massage techniques taught with the martial art form Kalarippayat (also seen is spelled Kalaripayattu) |

hello 2cents,
Thank you so much. I have actually already contacted 3 different school of the Kalaripayattu and They are willing to teach me the massage technique. Is there anyway to know if these schools are good schools or which school or master teaches well? I noticed that you are from Kerala.... Do you know of a place called Nilam resort? |

Here are the names of the schools I contacted, as I found them on the internet.
1-Healing Arts Of Kerala - taught by Bosko who trained under Gurukkal Vasudevan this is the school that can also train at Nilam resort 25km from Kottayam 2-C.V.N. Kalari ( Kalarippayat.com) in calicut 3-CVN Kalari Nadakkave I have also found a place called Panchendriya by a person named Prabhat Menon that teaches the Chavutti Thirummal in Virar (by Mumbai) If you have heard of any of these any information you could give me would be great. |

Hey 2cents--
You are the Best!!!! I have been searching for someone to give me just a little advice and Finally someone did. It is good to know, I want to go with a school that has a good reputation and and is teaching the original technique and not some variation of it. Your information was extremely helpful. thanks again, Slfcre8 |

Chavutti Massage
Hi 2cents
I have read through this thread and have looked at these three schools but none talk about chavutti massage, do they call it something else? I also wish to become a practitioner - any tips on how to book and organise? Do you also know any yoga retreats where you can go for a month? Thanks for your help! Sam |

Hello Sam,
There are many different names for the Chavutti Thirummal technique. You may also see it called Chavutti Thirummu or Kalari Massage (treatment) done with the feet, Marma Chikitsa (with feet and hands) and a varity of other names depending on the area in India that it is being taught. No Matter the name, through all the research I have done it comes from centuries ago with the basis of it in ayruvedic medicine taught only in the martial art form of Kalarippayat (also seen it as Kalaripayattu) and was only used by the martial artists (soldiers) performed on the martial artists. It is taught mainly in the kalaripayattu schools as part of their over all training program. However, I contacted them individually to see if they would be willing to train only the massage done with the feet portion of their trainings. Most of them will and do offer food and accomodations. If you would like more information I wil give all the schools and contact names that I have so you can research which school or training facility you like. You may want to check out the following websites... www.panchendriya.com www.healing-art.ws/index.htm www.cvnkalarikerala.com/default.htm **www.kalarippayat.com/index.htm The following school also teaches various forms of massage techniques you may want to research them too. http://www.rasovai.com/index.htm Side note: Some of the trainings I have listed for you incorporate yoga in their trainings. It is not like going to a yoga school I'm sure but you can inquire more information from them on Yoga and I'm sure they can help lead you in the right direction. I have scheduled my training in the chavutti technique and I will be going to train in two different techniques starting in April. When are your planning to take trainings for the chavutti technique and yoga? I hope this information helps you as I know how frustrating it can be trying find the information as I have spent the last 3 months researching this topic. Slfcre8 |

I have decided to study at CVN Kalari and then I am also studying with Healing arts of Kerala with Bosco on additional Chavutti techniques and some additional yoga and Ayruveda trainings. I will be gone until the end of May but if you like, when I return I will let you know what I thought about the trainings.
