Indian Middle Class and toilet paper

Hello everyone.

I know this is one more out of several " toilet paper/left hand" threads, but I've done a search and I haven't found a specific answer for my particular question.

that question is. Does the Middle Class and more wealthy Indians use toilet paper?

I'm asking because I'm not sure if is just a cultural thing or just merely an economical thing. Like some people not being able to afford a tp.

I hope that some people don't get offended. Is just genuine curiosity on my part.
Not using toilet paper at all is something mind-blogging for the Western mind.

In my experience... no. It is nothing to do with being able to afford toilet paper.

We do not use it in our half-Indian house, and would not want to. I can't remember the last time I saw a roll in anybody else's house.

it's more cultural than economical.

i have had people disgusted at the western style. "they wipe. with paper. do not wash. how unclean!!"

my personal gripe - so many western style toilets in india without TP. it's much much difficult to wash in those. makes one of life's simpler tasks more complicated!!!
