Indian Cooking

I just found out about this common ingredient in Indian and Indian-style food. Check out this link: http://www.food.gov.uk/safereating/sudani/

It is Sudan 1 chili. Causes cancer apparently. It is in most Indian food found in supermarkets, and throughout Asia, and particularly in Pakistan and India.

mmmmchemicals

many food dyes are illegal in usa. red #5 is the most well known.

this is perhaps why indians lug about all manner of foods, spices, pots and pans across the length and breadth of india???

how about msg??

someone posted on tt board about msg. i really started to take note about how much of it i eat. they put a ton of msg in food here in thailand. so much so i learned the word and now ask for no msg. its not a tiny additive, its a fekking ingredient!

It was in the news y'day. Apparently some retard in India exporting chilli powder decided to make it look brighter by adding sudan1, a cloth dyeing chemical to get that bright red look! A french food testing agency on routine food testing found out and has led to the longest product recall; I believe this was supposed to have started in 2002 and it's still going on involving over 178 products.

This $%$ers never learn, lead additives in tumeric, ground tree bark in tea leaves, I tell you these chaps are ingenious. Takes the meaning of the word 'ersatz' to new lows!

I remember reading a while back, that there're a lot of unpleasant things in raw curry powder. Never add raw curry powder. It tastes cr@p anyway.

I add very few ingredients to what I eat anyway. I eat fish straight out of a tin with a knife, I don't touch msg, same as Rasputin. I just wondered about this Sudan1 because it is still on all the supermarket shelves in Britain.

I thought it had been banned in the UK. I remember reading about additives.

No, I think it still in products in some of the larger supermarkets. It's no problem for me, I just thought I'd mention it.
