Can anyone advise me on whether to take much mozzie repellent/coils etc with me (am off on a 6 month trip) or if it is best just to bring a small supply and purchase it in India??
Thanks

coils and repellant are cheap and widely available in India -- no need to bring much, if any, with you.

Try the goodknight mosquito mahine!!

Yep as "the man" says repellant and coils are available almost everywhere in India!! You may want to look into buying a plug in mozzie zapper, made by Goodknight/Godrej these machines slowly heat a blue mat or a liquid refill exuding a scent that kills mozzies on the spot!!
They are way better than coils which will leave you struggling to breathe if you burn them in your room at night!!
Here is a link so you know what to look for!!

They also make a pretty good repellant!!!!

For Rs 36, it looks like a real bargain. These work, eh?

I used a mozzie zapper for the first time regularly on our last trip to India and was pretty impressed with the results. The insects just fall down and don't get up again!

The only problem would be if there was a power cut. In power cut prone areas you could back it up with repellent.

I also carry a lightweight net but only tend to use it now if mozzies are around in large numbers.

I have not experience with variegation of druggistic goods in Indian shops but perhaps almost all kind of flying insects should be deterred by repellent AUTAN produced by BAYER Leverkusen/Germany/ with big percentage of DEET(sold in every European contry and also in Thailand and Malaysia, therefore perhaps available also in India).

Thank you all for your replies - I must say I find this forum really useful - people are so quick to reply to queries. I am sure I will find it invaluable when I am actually in India too!!

Note that the anti-mosquito device looks great for hotel rooms, however, you will still need your repellant for evenings on the train or walking around outside!
