Question Immunizations

Next Wednesday I will be getting all my shots at one time

Question being has anybody gotten sick after getting so many at one time? It happens to be the day before the Thanksgiving feast I have planned......Perhaps I should see if Taco Bell is open that day for back-up. *Mmmmmm.....Chalupas*

Thanks!

all the shots at once!

i got all my first round shots - hep A, hep B, polio update, and two others i don't even remember - on the same day and was fine (maybe it only affected my memory?). after 5 shots, i did expect to feel a bit punky, but it didn't slow me down at all.

i had already had tentenus update (thank god), and i got a flu shot the following week, as that was STRONGLY recommended by the travel clinic and my own physician, along with two other docs i know (that was actually their first question once they found out i was going - "did you get your flu shot???"). apparently, the flu lives in those international flights and travels around the world each year in our noses and under our fingernails. so i packed extra travel wipes in my carryon, and have some vitamin c/zinc tabs as well.

hope your shots go well!

You can never go wrong with getting some Chalupa's in advance just in case, they are also good reheated the next day

I have only did the shots once, I don't bother anymore, but I took them all in one shot (pun not intended) and didn't have any side effects at all. It was really no big deal.

one more shot in the arm....

if you can, i'd go ahead and get your flu shot as soon as possible - apparently (you think they'd tell you this shit, but after probably 5 years of flu shots, i just now find this out from a medico aquaintance), you need several weeks for the shot to really help out (and i guess move fully into?) your immune system.

7 days and counting til i set off for my first india trip!! (at the beginning of this week, i was practically paralysed with anxiety - the "what the f*** am i DOING???" kind, but - partially thanks to all you here at indiamike - i am really excited about going!)

Hey Carol

Enjoy your trip and try and ignore those anxiety attacks.... a few deep breaths should help. And if you feel a bit overwhelmed when you first get there then just ride it out.... on my first trip one of my travel companions freaked out when we arrived in Delhi and made us go straight to Agra. She got over it though and had a good time. I know it's a bit of a cliche but India really is one of those places which you may loathe one moment and love the next. Where are you headed?

prepared for delhi freak-out

hey maree (i guess theoretically we should change the topic line here, but oh well.) -

i think i'm as prepared for being overwhelmed by delhi as it's possible to be

fortunately, i'll be meeting a group of tibetan buddhist monks from the drepung gomang monastery down south, and i am hoping that their hilarity and serenity will make my first journey through the city a bit easier. also, they won't ever let me carry anything heavy, and i suspect will serve as a secondary security system - who's going to steal stuff from a monk?

i'll be in delhi with them for a couple of days (hopefully long enough to pick up some long skirts to wear at the monastery - if you have any tailor or shop suggestions in delhi, let me know!), then we'll fly down to goa, where the monastery will send someone to pick us up. i have done a lot of fundraising for them here in the US to help them build a new temple, and they'll be dedicating it on dec. 6 - the dalai lama is going to be there for the dedication and a series of teachings though the 16th. i'm not a buddhist, so i may take a break from the teachings and try to get around that area (near hubli) a bit - maybe over to dandeli national wildlife preserve.

then on the 17th, 4 monks and i will take a train back up to delhi, where i'll be meeting with them and the US consulate to try to get some visas granted for a year's stay in the US. a friend of mine who lives in japan is coming over to meet me, and we'll spend christmas week in delhi and environs (someone yesterday just recommended a trip to rishikesh for the ganesha puja on christmas and boxing day - since i'm not a hindu either, that sounds really interesting, but i have no idea what that entails). other recommendations for trips in the delhi area are most welcome. i'm sure we'll get out to see the taj, but i'm kind of thinking that we might play a lot of it by ear. we need to stick close to delhi, since i'm not sure when or how many consulate appointments i'm going to need for this visa thing.

i think someone on these boards - mike himself maybe? midnight toker? mentioned that on his first taxi ride into delhi at 2 in the morning, he rode past elephants and camels. i have to confess that i am hoping for elephants and camels. (where does one generally find elephants in delhi? also, can visitors go to the place where the dobhi wallas do all the laundry? as we say here in kentucky, i am just et up with curiosity about the dobhi wallas!)

like i said, i've not been to india before, and frankly, even after working with the monks for the past 3 years, had not ever planned on going - i was pretty intimidated by everything i had heard about the rigors of travel in india. but this opportunity to go presented itself, and i've never been the kind of girl to turn down an adventure, so..... and then i stumbled on this site, and now i am so excited about going!! let's see - exactly one week from today, i will be about 1 hour away from landing in delhi!
