There were more cases this year. I knew a couple of locals who got it. They're OK. Nobody I know takes anything. I took Doxycycline through the monsoon.

You can prevent it quite well, according to some, by taking Colloidal Silver.

I still prefer hanging a strand of garlic cloves around my neck and it prevents werewolves too. Seriously, Nick's advice is a classic. Take it seriously as it does happen

Extended use of Coloidal silver causes blindness (and turns your skin blue-grey; Wilkie Collins wrote a novel featuring this effect!). Not every natural substance is good for you!
Please google for more information on this one; it is something I researched years back, and do not remember details now. Coloidal silver was consigned to the rubbish bin when what we now know as antibiotics came into use --- many would say that it should stay there! The garlic is good against vampires too, the ideal method being to chew a whole clove well --- and then breathe on them ![]()

I like this article, written by an MD: "Colloidal Silver: Risk Without Benefit." http://www.quackwatch.org/01Quackery.../silverad.html
Nick's advice seems best to me, too: if one contracts a serious illness (like malaria), one should go see a doctor. |

That's the one I read!
I used to go to a dental practice that embraced 'alternative' or 'complimentary' medicines (and very good dentists they were too ) --- they used it as an antiseptic on wounds, ad I've used it for mouth and throat infections. Can't say I found it to be any kind of miracle cure*, but anyway I gave it a try. Decided not to use it internally after reading the above.*tincture of myrrh my favourite for that. Extract of Paprika is good too, but just too painful !Quote:
I once read ---- the only symptom that is definately not malaria is pregnancy. Hey! What about a broken leg? but point taken anyway ![]() |

Another natural substance is petroleum. Some of my extremely distant relations in northern Canada use that to get high on. They drink it (not a recommensation)! It doesn't take too long for the brain damage to mask the symptoms and they die in a couple of years anyway. But, I digress... as is my want on the infinite malaria questions..

i agree...
both those places would be perfect in march. i would also suggest to venture north along a path above the beach at varkala as there are some lovely places to stay where there are no cliffs and a town about 8ks north where a river comes down to the ocean. also accommodation there. you can walk all the way along the path and beach. the best eating places are at varkala proper, fish and prawn meals, fresh baked bread and cakes etc. would like to go to kovalum, myself at that time. it was too crowded when i last went there but it has an area for snorkelling.

when in Goa last year i was a bit concerned because iwe decided not to take malaria tab, so i went intoa local chemist and spoke to the pharmasist (spelling)she said there was no need as there was no malaria in Goa (at the time).
Whislt in there an elderly man was eves dropping on our converstaion and said in the last 10years of comeing to Goa he had never taken any. so we did'nt take any. However when we got home i was quite ill with flu like symptems (which i brought back from Goa) and needless to say VERY WORRIED as i thought i had contracted malaria. Yes i was ok, we are going again in Jan and yes i will be taking Malaria tabs, Its just not worth the stress or risk. Oh and i think Kerela has a risk of Malaria. |
