I ate food 15mins before taking Dukoral

Hi guys,

I am an idiot because I didnt read the Cholera vaccination instructions well enough as I had some Pad Thai 15mins before taking it. (my first dose).

The instructions say you shouldnt eat 1hr before or after?

Does anyone know enough about Dukoral to give me some advice?

Will I have inactivated the vaccine, or is it ok?

Thanks,

Fitz

If you have the time, I'd consider your first dose a waste and begin all over again.

I've taken Dukoral prior to both my ('04 and '07) trips to India. Not only did I not contract cholera, but I didn't experience the runs, or "Delhi belly," despite some injudicious eating (salads) and drinking (with ice cubes). In fact, my only gastroenteritis problem was . . . constipation(!).

1. I dont reaaally have time...
2. It isnt cheap.
So basically, if the food wont inactivate it, then i'm happy... but if it will definitely make it ineffective, then I'll start again.

The food may or may not inactivate it, or reduce its effectiveness. You'll be taking a chance. But Dukoral itself is chancy: it's only 30% effective against cholera -- and I don't know about its statistical anti-diarrhoeal effectiveness.
