How to locate an Ayurvedic doctor

John and I saw this show on the History Channel, What the Ancients Knew: India. (You know, one thing that's neat about India is that there is so much connection to it's ancient history; I wonder what it would have been like had the Ancient Egyptian society not ended... anyway, back to my question.)

One of the things the host did was go to an Ayurvedic doctor. He got his pulse taken! And then they talked about the origins of rhinoplasty in Ayurvedic. I don't plan on reshaping my distinctive nose but I was wondering how a visit to an Ayurvedic doctor would benefit us. Could we go in for a check up? How about a massage? Should I agree to the use of leeches? (I really have no objection to being leeched but I have researched it yet.) How do I locate a reputable office? (I read someone's post here about almost dying because of Ayurveda, so I want to be careful.) And what would we expect to pay?

Once when I wasn't feeling well, I went to a Chinese doctor. It was so fun even though I was ill at the time. I only remember the pulse taking and the tongue examination, and I looked through some of his recipe books while he gathered ingredients. Of course, the "tea" that I had to make smelled so horrible that I hoped the neighbors didn't think it was my dinner. But it was amazing how I started to improve right away. So I'm hopping for benefits from Ayurvedic medicine.

On my last trip to India I got into the ayurvedic medicine. As a matter of fact, the Himalaya brand sells ayurvedic medicine all over the world and their products are good. In India, you can get Himalaya ayurvedic products so cheap, like 1 or 2$. I went to a health store here in New Jersey and I was so surprised to see that the ayurvedic cream I bought in India for 1$, they sold it in this store for 7$. And so goes for all other ayurvedic products that I saw in India for a couple of $, in this store in new Jersey, these products went for 7 or 8 times the price that you get in India.

I think the reason why ayurvedic medicine is not so popular in the west in because it is so expensive. I think most of the ayurvedic medicine is good. They say that it has no side effects compared to the medicine you have here in the west. it also takes a little bit longer to heal the problem, but the plus side is that it is healthy and no side effects.

I have been taking ayurvedic medicine for more than a month now, for some stomach problems I developed in India and my stomach is much better now, thank you very much.

In my first trip in India I did an ayurvedic massage treatment in Keralla in Varkalla beach. I did it at a small hospital, that was actually the doctor's house and he transformed it into a small hospital. That massage was fantastic and definitely helped.

So I am all for ayurvedic medicine, but you might have to look for reputable doctors of course. Ayurvedic medicine is originally from Keralla, so you might want to go there to search for some good places. But of course that is not necessarily true, since there are tons of ayurvedic places all over India.

General rule with Ayurvedic medicines is that tast awful. Some people claim that it is the awful taste that cures you (probably even the germs can't stand it).
