Don't know why you got the impression I was overly worried about the Lassi, just asking a question from people that have more experience there then I do.
Perhaps you might wish to ask yourself why you feel the need to respond to posts that you obviously find "wearisome"?

Mr P is right; crossing the street is much more dangerous!

Given that Lassi is very much a home-made concoction (even the yoghurt will probably be home-made) that is not cooked or heated it is a very valid question to ask should it be put on the avoid list.

Thinking purely about what it is and how it is made, I'd be enclined to say, yes, avoid it. But, perhaps perversly, many of us think it helps us stay healthy in India!

Sorry, you caught me in a bad mood. I was recently diagnosed as having an inoperable terminal disease - it puts a different perspective on how you view some of life's problems!

Enjoy your trip and your lassi. I've drunk lassi in all sorts of places in India and at home, the only one that didn't agree with me was at a well known Indian restaurant in London!

cheers

Andrew

Andrew,
no worries... I'm just a bit overly excited about my first trip to India...
I understand your views and wish you the best.

..and wish you the best. Me too...

Lassi does not necessarily have water in it. Depend how thick the curd is. Or perhaps how mean the maker is!

Certainly true Nick,i'm a bit of a lassi-snob and have to say that if it's got water in it ain't lassi!!

While we're on one of my favorite subjects, I think the highlight of my lassi travels has got to be jaipur...the lassis there make all the hassle worthwhile

Anyone else got any good tips for top lassis?

My Indian uncle-inlaw who is a well established doctor in Chicago swears that ALL ice in India is safe because it comes from filtered sources.

I'm highly skeptical.

I'm with you on that one Mr Palooza!

I only have ice with my Old Monk and Cola. I reckon the alcohol wil counter out any nasties*

Chris.

*Well thats my excuse!

Ice and lassi is not a good combo and I am not talking of the nasties that you may consume in Indian ice.

Much like a good beer, a good lassi must be enjoyed at room temperature.

I like my lassi with a dash of salt...a wee bit. But the best thing to go with a lassi on a summer day is a leaf of lime/lemon/citron

One problem with these posts of "how safe is XYZ foodstuffs to eat?"

There is no clear answer!

the funny thing is, every since coming back from India the first time, I don't use ice in drinks anymore, and drinks (water, soda) must be close to room temp for me, not straight out of the fridge! too cold....

milk is the exception!
