5 lbs last 2 trips
Quote:
Some here think this is a silly thread, but I lost 60 lbs within the last 3 years, slowly, doing Weight Watchers program & exercise 5 times a week, more or less. I stablized last year around 160lbs, so this is certainly an important subject to me. Both january 2004 and this past trip, (both 3 weeks) I lost 5 lbs while in India. I don't really know why, regained last years 5. This trip I didn't enjoy food much as I was staying with a sister in law who is not a good cook. Last year the food was fabulous, but different SIL., and still I lost 5. I think I eat less calories in India because so many temptations are simply not available & the Indian sweets & snacks are not that tempting to me. My danger foods are crackers & cheese & good bread. I dislike or am indifferent to rice, chapati's & paneer. Don't get me wrong I love most "good" Indian food, i just didn't get much this trip. I was mighty glad I brought my instant oatmeal packets for those days where we were yet again for lunch & dinner, eating the same bitter vegetable fry, the same mustard oil infused dal, fried paneer and papaya for dessert. Yet they wouldn't let me buy the yummy fruits & vegtables I wanted in the market until my last week when I started to actually complain! The issue was money, apparently, guest not allowed to buy, but guest wants overpriced items supposedly out of season. I explained that 5 rupees overcharge was paisa to me & please, please, could I have some watermelon, pineapple, ripe tomatoes, here is 20 rupees for the overcharge!! I think my husband intervened during one of his phone conversations with his sister, but what a waste of opportunity to eat delicious fruits & vegetables! Also, if you really want to eat raw fruits & vegetables & are in a home, wash fruits with soap & water, get some bleach, put a few drops in a bowl of water and put clean fruit & vegtables in the bleach water for a couple of minutes to kill whatever it is in the water we are not supposed to ingest. This was tricky for me as my relatives thought I was a crazy person with all my washing. Luckily they had given me the "master bedroom" with its's own bathroom & I went in there with my fruits ![]() So my Indian diet plan is to eat fruits & vegtables & stay with a bad cook! The main thing is to enjoy your trip, if you lose or gain, it won't be that much or important, just have fun! Good luck! |

You will loose weight if you eat "Western style". If you eat spiced food, not much meat
and no potatoes but rice... well, you won't loose so much weight. Just enjoy the great food in India, but don't eat to much meat. Eat food like the Indians do and you will be fine. Indian kitchen is better then the French! |
