how much weight did you lose?

So all of us have heard that when you go to India, you lose weight . . . it seems to me to be a pretty awesome weight loss plan (seeing a fabulous country and dropping a few pounds too!)

So how much weight did you lose when you went to India? And how long were you gone for?

Losing weight?

If anything I always put on a bit of weight.. but that's probably the result of me being an expat and every distant relation filling me to bursting point with food and sweets...

I didn't lose any weight in India, though miraculously I didn't put any on either! The food is amazing, so unless you're unlucky enough to get a case of Delhi Belly then I don't see why India should equal weight loss. True, you'll probably sweat so much that you'll lose weight in water, but you'll put that straight back on again.

Well, about 10 pounds in the 3 weeks I was there...a nasty case of Delhi belly after the second week, much water lost to sweat, but mostly I was so busy enjoying everything that I didn't stop much to eat! I also think that the combination of spices and lots of walking did a little job on speeding up my notoriously slow metabolism! Unfortunately, upon return home I managed to find about 5 of those lost pounds...

I can't wait til my next Indian adventure (weight loss or no) !!

I moved to Mumbai almost a year ago and put on 18 lbs within 6 weeks. Eventually started working out and got rid of it in a few weeks. I am a sucker for sweets from the Parsi Dairy, Kulfi and late night Indian snacks which is the source of my problem.

I lost 20 lbs in 12 weeks, but part of that was because the food is NOT diabetic-friendly and I lose weight when my blood sugar is too high.

One month, and NONE. Boy was I dissapointed
As I was walking a lot more than I do at home I figured I would definitely lose weight, and made the most of the street vendors - didn't lose the weight but at least got a bit fitter in the process

My wife and I both lost about 8 kilos each when travelling around India/Nepal for 3 months about 4-5 years ago. Unfortunately we put it all back on plus more within 3 months of being back in the UK. I think the weight loss was partly delhi-belly and partly the excercise of carrying our packs everywhere.

I'm currently working in Bangalore and have lost about 12 kilos in 3 months. Mainly due in part to the fact that I am eating a lot less than normal. Plus cycling to and from work must help also. And most probably the drastic reduction in Guinness consumption.

I find that strange. The only thing I couldn't find was a choice of sugar free drinks. The only one seemed to be Diet Coke. Got fed up with that and devised vodka, fresh squeezed lime and soda water. Otherwise rice, meat, fruit and vegetables are OK for me.

Hi All,

Lost sooo much weight when I was there about ten years ago, 56 -70 pounds in 18 months, got the usual, gardia & dysentry and something else which was nasty in Varanasi... I asked the chai wallah for some tanda pani & got very ill, a local friend told me the chai wallah uses water from the Ganga and not to drink at his stall again. I didn't beleive him so next morning I got up early and witnessed the chai wallah getting water from the ganga to make tea with. TBH suprised I wasn't more ill than I was but spent some time in the doctors/clinic I can tell you!

I gained 4 kilos from 3 months in India, but I think I gained all of them the last two weeks in Goa (good food and nutella...) But I lost all of it when I came back home

i lost about a stone and a half/2 stone in 4 months. i tended to loose my appetite when i got on the road, plus the food out there is so much healthier - fresher, no chemicals and other nastiness. i felt a lot healthier generally (well, apart from the delhi belly!).

Weight Watchers not for the faint hearted

I was in Egypt for 2 months once and lost 5 kilos within 48hrs. Got aemobic dystentry and had a lovely visit in Luxor hospital.

This time round for India I'm trying to beef up on my sister's awesome cooking so I won't be so disgustingly skinny when I get sick this time. Yes you could say I am pessimistic, the glass is half full when it comes to the shits!!!
