How much weight did you lose in India?

I've been in India for 5 months and didn't think I had lost any weight. People told me I looked "slimmer" and I just smiled and said thanks. A few weeks ago, all my new tailored Indian clothes were dirty, so I put on a pair of pants I brought with me and they were so loose, they almost fell down.

I'm obese so no worries about losing too much weight. lol. Check the scale and I've dropped 30 to 40 pounds (I don't remember my exact weight when I came here..) That's the first time I've ever lost weight!! And I wasn't even TRYING!

So how much did u lose? Was it from cronic diarrhea or a healthy change in lifestyle?

I think for me, it's both! But I'm happy

Lost some muscle mass by maintaining a primarily veg diet ... and gained a little body fat from Ghee , syrupy/glycerine based beer ... sweated a little more than normal .... but rehydrated with those endless cups of tea that one must drink, often at gunpoint it would seem ... Kind Sir! I will not ask you again DRINK THIS BLOODY CHAI!

..... loose the occassional kilo getting chased by those wild dogs for a few blocks .... then replenish on gulab jamon.

All in all - it's a breakeven in the weight department.

I've lost a few kilos too (maybe 3-4), probably because of the once a month chicken I have here, as opposed to the 3 times a day meat I used to have at home...but I think first of all because of the lack of anything ready-made to eat in the fridge! (or in shops, for that matter). Well I'm not talking about snacks and sweets. I used to "check" the fridge every hour back home...but there's nothing in it here, unless I cook first! Now THAT tends to curb down the appetite quite a bit!

I notice you’re from the USA, now I’m not having a go at you yanks, quite the opposite.

You have stopped eating food crammed packed with refined sugar, probably the first time in your life you have walked any place, you eat when you are hungry, not because some bill board tells you that you are hungry, no doubt you have learned how to eat fresh food without preservatives. That is why you have lost 40lb

Don’t believe me, go look at the ingredients in a western type sliced loaf, a tin of beans, a cake with a sell by date of 6 months. Any manufactured food.

And just to through a big spanner into the works, Ghee wont put weight on you meat wont put weight on you fat wont make you fat, what will put weight on you is eating an excessive amount of Carbohydrates.

You also consume less food by volume. It's harder and slower to eat with your hands. You're not having pizza and hamburgers, a huge steak, etc. So your calorie count is smaller, and the foods you eat (for the most part) aren't based on high-fructose corn syrup.

The carbs you consume are getting burned off, too, since you are generally more active when you travel. You are certainly doing a lot more walking.

hmm.....a plateful of rice is a huge thing, by volume (but not much else). I don't find eating with hands making it any slower...but that I guess depends on how used you are to it. What makes it slower is the taste (or lack of it!)

Despite mild Delhi belly on every trip I always gain weight. Relatives see to that and the five meals a day ensure it. At home I don't have eggs and buttered toast for breakfast, or a five course meal for dinner.

I don't get to exercise as much as I like, though. I'd prefer to walk a lot but no one else wants to walk anywhere so we drive. Can't wait for the Metro to come to Noida, then I'll be free of cars. Next trip I am going to try to walk/jog some more.

I've always been very skinny (due to my metabolism rather than lack of food) but had never lost weight in my life (including several trips to India) until I got ill there 18 months ago, and I lost half a stone (7 pounds, not sure how many kilos). Which isn't a lot, but I was only 9 1/4 stone beforehand! I don't weigh myself often but happened to notice this morning that I've regained half what I lost.

My first trip to India I was convinced I'd lose weight, so I didn't bother feeling guilty about a second helping of anything! Both of my friends lost weight there, but I didn't lose and may have put on 1LB or so. Second trip... well, I think I gained even more! Despite my Delhi Belly issues! I'm blaming the Ghee and the Kingfishers!

Hmmm....I also have put on a....."few extra pounds"....but this is down to 7UP as I find drinking a load of water very bland and uninteresting. Cant be down to no excercise as most of the time I hardly sit for a few minutes before I remember something else I have to do!

My first trip I certainly did lose weight and not due to illness. But each new trip has changed that to the other way around. Last year I am certain I gained a little weight.

In 2 weeks I get to try it again and... we'll see but I think I can guess

i eat healthier whilst in india, though i also eat a healthy organic veg diet here, at home. i do lose some weight since i don't eat cheese, and very few sweets. however, when i get ill in india, the weight drops quick and i'm a slim girl to begin with so too much ain't good for me.
