how much is ciprofloxacin in India?

Hi, In Australia, a prescription of 14 x 500mg tablets of Ciprofloxacin costs about $63 ! Does anyone know how much it costs in India, and if prescription is necessary?

Zydus Cadilla's product - Ciprobid was priced at Rs 8 per pill a couple of years ago when I had used it. But there are products as low as Rs 4 and Rs 5 per pill.

That is for Ciprobid 500 mg.

Prescription is generally required but I bought it off the counter.

I bought some last time I was there. I didn't need a prescription but the price varied from chemist to chemist. I got one packet of about 12 tablets for 28 rupees and one packet of about 10 tablets for 58 rupees. Not all chemists stock it though but they can order it and they'll have it within a couple of days.

It's the sort of medicine one would only take if really suffering; not something to wait a couple of days for .

If one place doesn't have it, another should. If you have problems buying a major anti-biotic like this, most private hospitals will have a pharmacy attached.

You will be able to buy it without prescription, but should be certain that you really need it. A doctor's advice would be no bad thing.

Be aware that the Indian market is flooded with spurious and counterfeit drugs that don't contain any active ingredients. Make sure you purchase your drugs from a reputed place.

The runs I got would invariably be due to last night's chillies yes. Oh, and I remember a case of feeling not so well because of what can only have been overeating.

In the comfort of your home, you might think I should lay it easy on the pickles. Crouched over a squat toilet there with plenty a cautionary tale up your sleeve, you'll more likely think Help! I'm about to die.

That is not to say serious symptoms shouldn't be rapidly looked into of course. But that advise of pop some freely available antibiotics at your own layman's discretion at the first sign of trouble must be some of the worse bandied about on forums like these yes. This isn't aspirin, folks.

Good advice, Nick and Mach - whilst the tabs. are much cheaper here you must watch for 'photocopies' as they call counterfeit ones. So to be on the safe side, first go to a reliable doctor and get the script from him - I certainly wouldn't be willy nilly treating myself with this sort of strong chemical.
