Angry Hotel security/safety - A Warning

Just a reminder to be vigilant with hotel/room security. During our visit in August to India we (myself, Fiance Angela and two kids) booked into a hotel in Colva, Goa. The room appeared secure with grills over the windows. It had 3 doors - 2 leading onto the 2 balconies all with sliding bolts for locking from the inside. To cut the story short I was awoken to find a man on the floor at the bottom of the bed going through our bags. I tackled him and eventually ended up on the balcony where he eventually escaped with approx Rs5000 after dropping my mobile phone in the process. The hotel "security" were of absolutley no use just watching from the ground floor (we were on the 1st floor) not even attempting to follow/see where he went. When We checked how he had gained entry it appeared he pushed the sliding window open & put his arm through the grill, used something to push the bolt across on the adjacent door. As you can imagine this frightened the kids and Angela. The management were only concerned with their 'reputation' and wanted to sweep the incident under the carpet asking us not to mention it to anyone. Their attitude the next day did not even show concern etc. This really pi***d us off and the following day we left and went off to Anjuna.
This could have been a really nasty incident and the end of our travel. But Angela's & the kids resolve was strong enough to continue on .
Basically - be very vigilant, watch out for windows near doors !! and where possible apply padlocks etc to bolts where possible - even when the room is occupied -
If anyone wants further details of the incident or Hotel concerned please contact me via pm or let me know whether the hotel should be named !!.

Wow, that's frightening!! Luckily it is very rare for travelers to have an experience like this. Hope you filed a police report.
