High Blood Pressure!
Hi all,
I went to the docs 6 months ago with a sore throat! I had a routine blood pressure test while there and it set off all sorts of alarm bells Result - I am now on beta blockers daily (lopresor) and a Diuretic (Bendroflumethiazide) I am going to India next year on an unlimited vacation (Timescale-wise!) (Visa restrictions not withstanding!) and wondered if I will be able to obtain (at a cheaper rate!) said tablets there? Howie |

You could almost certainly get them cheaper than the UK 6.something an item prescription charge, but perhaps not as cheap as an NHS season ticket.
Pity I didn't see this post before I saw my doctor this evening (social visit only) or I could have asked for you.

I'm not a doctor so don't make any decisions based on my advice but you may want to talk to your doctor about this!!
Two people I know were advised to stop with Diuretics whilst in India because you dehydrate in the warm weather anyway (if it's warm that is) My father in law stopped and was happy to see his blood pressure stay lowish and stable. Ask your GP about this!! |

I would not make any decisions without consulting my doc for advice! However as reported on other threads here, decent advice from the family GP can be somewhat limited, due to their smallish field of expertise or their general medicinal knowledge being out of date etc! Ultimately I will make the decision myself on the medication (with help from all advice offered! and probably with the aid of a 'blood pressure monitoring kit'!) Plenty of time left yet to decide on the best course of action so I welcome any thoughts on the subject? Thanks, Howie |

For your own health's sake do not try to stop your medication without consulting with your GP, as the medication for high blood pressure is prescribed after taking afull history and relevent investigations.
Yes diuretics can cause dehydration but you make sure that you drink plenty of water. All the medications are available in India without a prescription and very cheap. Good luck. PS. Try to avoid alcoholic drinks while flying. |
