Thumbs down Heroin Warning

March 2005. Recently 3 friends of friends bought some heroin and mdma in Goa. 1 is dead and 1 is in a coma and still there as I write. The third didn't take anything and is OK. I believe it was 'bad' heroin. Not condoning or recommending drug use, just thought everyone should know that needs to know.

looks like there was a similar post last year DEATHS in Arambol

According to the Guardian article, the heroin was ultra-pure and normal "doses" were resulting in overdoses.

Hm I don't know if purer heroin is more lethal, it's supposed to be a lot more healthy (/less harmful) actually although might be more potent yes if you're not used to it. For the MDMA, pills of course are notoriously hard to check for quality unless you have a lab around.

The bottom line for anyone who hadn't thought of it yet: beware when buying dope from strangers. Beware when buying dope in unfamiliar surroundings. In Amsterdam plenty of tourists pass out just on the grass because it's more potent than what they're used to, not to mention the shoe soles and pencil erasers being sold for hashish or opium on the streets of course. Also, languishing in some jail at home for possession might be a lot more pleasurable than doing so in Asia. Think about all those questions about malaria and mineral water and aids again and then imagine what it'd be like.

How incredibly unfortunate. I hope your friend in the coma recovers oneoff. When using drugs we bring risks upon ourselves unfortunately, I don't know what you can do about testing purity/concentration of heroin but you can pick up reasonably compact pill testing kits. They come with a variety of liquids that you scrape a miniscule amount of the pill into and based on the colour it turns figure out whether it contains certain ingredients.

There are groups in Australia who will do this for you at raves and i know people who are religious about it. I'm unaware of the availability of these packs in other countries but it could be worth looking into for people who go to Goa to party.

www.ez-test.com.au i s the Australian distributor (don't know what the site looks like as its blocked form my work) and hears an bit of an article:

The tests are done in sequence and by inference and extrapolation (just love this phrase), you can detect whether a pill/powder/capsule/whatever contains MDxA (MDMA, MDEA, MDA), methamphetamine, amphetamine, PMA, 2C-B, DXM, combinations (primary amine – secondary amine like a MDMA/amphetamine combo pill) and even heroin. Each reagent changes color when it’s exposed to the recreational substances that it’s able to detect. http://www.sixthseal.com/000518.html (full article)

Sure, happens here at raves although the govt. are sometimes stupidly fussy about it. I wonder what taking a kit like that through customs might do to you though.

Forget pills. Give up drugs. Believe an ex-doper. It kills within.

Que Sera Sera

That's the way life is. Some people are losers and some are winners. Ain't it a bitch? Take William Burroughs for example, he lived to a ripe old age as a famous cultural icon. If he hadn't been a junkie he wouldn't have written those wonderful books.

Recently in England the debate over criminalization of cannabis has been reignited because of the claim that a handful of people become schizophrenic if they smoke pot. "Mental Health Campaigners" are clamoring for stricter laws and the logic behind their argument is that "vulnerable" people have to be protected even at the price of criminalizing recreational users and restricting the freedom of the vast majority of people who don't have an innate tendency to schizophrenia.

You hate Goa because:

1 - some foreigners make bad decisions about how to use drugs?
2 - it is a place where it is possible to make bad decisions about how to use drugs?
3 - Goans are evil and push dangerous substances on their visitors?
4 - You had a bad drug experience there and you hold the entire state responsible?

This thread should be a reminder to people to Be careful out there!

Doing hard drugs is risky enough, but purchasing hard drugs from someone you do not know and in a foreign country is a recipe for disaster.

It is no laughing matter.

Please BE CAREFUL!!!!!!

I'm with you on that all the way.
But I go to Goa on a regular basis and love it. No drugs in sight either. I just always feel the urge to defend the place against the notion that Goa=drug scene. It's a small state, but it's a lot bigger than that.
