Hi, and welcome to India Mike.
There are several threads on vaccinations, so you might want to search for them and see what we think. I wouldn't go to India without some vaccinations and anti-malarials; others feel differently. I've travelled solo in India many times over the past 30-some years, as have several others here on the forum, so don't hesitate to ask your specific questions. |

For solo women tips, see this thread:
Safe for women to travel alone? For a LOT more information, do this: Click Search (top right) -> Advanced Search, in "Keywords" field type "women" and right underneath, select "Search Titles Only", then click "Search Now" on the bottom of the page. |

A welcome from me too
![]() The best place to begin on IndiaMike is the India for Beginners Forum ![]() You should find many of your basic questions answered there. Please note that, although you can post to threads in that forum, you cannot create new ones. This is so that we keep a place on the site where basic info can be given, without too much repetition, and without such valuable stuff disappearing into the archives after a couple of days

Saritat,
I'll be going to southern India at the end of December. I understand your reticence about shots, but after looking at the CDC website and seeing the possibilities for disease and illness realize there are no other options. Someone who coordinates trips for Washington State University mentioned their use of a travel clinic affiliated with the city hospital. Never knew such a thing existed. "Travel medicine clinics" are all over the country. Just check the CDC site and you will find the link. The nurse that I talked to knew all about what shots were needed definitely and which ones were more or less optional (such as rabies, if you are going to be within 24 hours of a hospital at all times). |
