health insurance- help!
Hi - This is my first time in any forum at all..bear with me.
I am 62, going to Calcutta for 2 years to volunteer working with kids. I am leaving in September. My son married an Indian woman. they will be in Brooklyn, but I will be well looked after by my extended (new) family. I will be volunteering with Sister Cyril at Loreto Sealdah.I have been researching health insurance endlessly and can't find any reviews or any individuals who have obtained insurance and are happy with it. Currently IMG looks ok. HTH ? How can I get real info? I want good coverage which I can use on return visits as well. I am in NYC. Thanks for any help. Now can I figure out how to find responses to this post? ![]() |

Always a complicated problem! If you are going with a volunteer organization, they would be the first place to ask about expatriate health insurance. If you are just going as an individual and not part of a larger organization, you'll have to get it yourself.
Also, you have to know what you want covered. Just in country medical care--which is very inexpensive by US standards and would probably be worth just paying out-of-pocket if you needed it or health care that would include evacuation insurance if something really bad happened and you needed to be evacuated to a first world country like Singapore, for care. Also, if you have a health insurance plan in the USA, you may be covered as an "emergency" in India. Meaning, you would pay yourself and keep receipts then get paid back less any co-pay or deductibles. You would have to call them. Lastly, there are many companies that do international health insurance and I used one of the links that show up on this page, which looks like a good resource. http://www.globalinsurancenet.com/default.asp |
